Lyrics / Song of the Week : Flightless Bird, American Mouth
I decided to do something completely fun, completely different from graphics, and for a change something I’m actually interested in. I thought how about we have a “Lyrics / Song of the Week” each week, and you are welcome to put your insights, and opinions all week round about the specific song / lyrics I pick.
Although mainly we know each other just through graphics, if you knew me personally you would know that I’m actually pretty deep in my own right, and I absolutely love songs that have meaning. Tune is not so much of a big deal for me, just as long as the depth hits the right key and pushes the right buttons, then I am in love with that song.
I know I’m not the only person in the world obsessed with songs, so I decided to share this little something of myself with everyone of you who are interested.
I want to make it clear though, the songs I pick are chosen because I love the song and its lyrics, and never will there be another reason aside from that. That is how passionate I am with my decisions concerning this. Please don’t ever consider the thought that I have picked a song because of its popularity, or because it was the soundtrack of a blockbuster film, therefore I might have liked it because I got lost in the crowd. No, I’m not like that, if in any instance I’ve chosen a song that happens to be very popular, and even more so in this generation, today, then all I have to say is that song is popular for a reason and the popularity is well-deserved.
For this week, there was no competition. I, however, cannot wait for next week’s song of the week because due to my obsession, I already have dozens to pick from in mind. There are absolutely other wonderful songs out there that I love other than this, but time will come for them and when it does, they will be featured. But as of this week, there was no competition, and I have picked the song by Iron & Wine, (if it’s familiar but you can’t pinpoint where you heard it from, it’s from the movie Twilight) which is:
“Flightless Bird, American Mouth”
I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair,
I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere
Have I found you Flightless bird, jealous,
weeping or lost you, american mouth
Big pill looming
Now I’m a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold And clean blood of
Christ mountain stream
Have I found you Flightless bird, grounded,
bleeding or lost you, american mouth
Big pill stuck going down
I did not pick this song because it was on Twilight, I appreciated the movie but I was watching the movie, not the song. Try to appreciate the song without thinking about vampires. If you think of this song and you love it, and while singing it in your head you picture out Bella and Edward Cullen and their sweet love affair, then you love the movie, not the song.
If you play the song in your head and you think that associating it with Twilight ruins the song, then you love the song. Well, that’s just how I see it but I’m not Tyra Banks so I’m gonna let you have your own opinion and not force mine on you, lol..
I do love the movie Twilight, but let’s face it, the depth of the song and the movie are not in tandem with each other, (I personally think Twilight wanted the best and they hit the jackpot, but it didn’t really fit the concept with the whole teen-love vampire thing they had going on – and ummm, Iron & Wine shouldn’t have sold out haha, but yeah I get that it’s part of the business and well, it was a quick decent way to get heard worldwide) the song to me is so full of true emotion from a very honest heart who has described real bitter-sweet life using those words, and although some sense of the song kind of escapes us, we understand it completely like we know where it came from.
I love who wrote that song, how he found the words to articulate the journeys of his life, and the honesty of it all just blows me away. Now I’m speechless, can’t say it enough, I worship this song.
's computer and house, and has nothing to do with or is not at all based on your timezone. No, she's not kidding.
